Peter Dunne's biography
An award-winning producer and writer, Peter Dunne brings three decades of experience in script development, writing, and producing to workshops and lectures. His experiences as a writer, producer, and lecturer have taken him around the world: from Los Angeles to London, from Atlanta to Auckland, from Las Vegas to San Salvador.
Peter served as the Vice President of Development for three Hollywood studios before beginning his career as a screenwriter and producer. Among the projects he has produced and / or written are such classics as the extraordinary mini-series Sybil, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, JAG, Police Story, Nowhere Man, Eight is Enough, Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman. Melrose Place, Dallas, and Knots Landing,
He has compiled an impressive list of honors along the way that includes the Emmy Award, the George Foster Peabody Broadcasting Award for Conspicuous Service to Broadcasting, the Scott Newman Award for Substance Abuse Awareness, the Chicago Film Festival's Silver Hugo, and the distinguished Kennedy Foundation's Saint Coletta Award for Exceptional Achievement in the Field of Mental Retardation, The Film Advisory Board's Award of Excellence, and two Media Access Awards, among others.
Aside from teaching screenwriting at the UCLA School of the Arts and Writers' Program, Peter has guest lectured in Creative Writing and Memoir Writing at UCLA, at Santa Clara University, and the University of Southern California. He leads fiction workshops in the U.S., and as writer-in-residence at The Anam Cara Writers' and Artists Retreat in West Cork, Ireland. He founded and conducts The Grey Quill Society, a weekly Life Writing Workshop for the Motion Picture and Television Fund in Woodland Hills, California.
Peter is the author of the book Emotional Structure: Creating the Story Beneath the Plot published by Quill Driver Press, and is a contributing writer to
"Quality TV: Contemporary American Television and Beyond" published by I.B.Taurus, London. He serves on the Advisory Board of UCLA Arts and Writers' publications Cut to the Chase and Inside the Room, is co-author of the official centennial book, Beverly Hills: The First One Hundred Years for Rizzoli, and Founding Editor of The Grey Quill Society Review.
A dual-citizen of the United States and Ireland, Dunne is a member of the Writers Guild of America, the Producers Guild of America, The Irish Writers Union, PEN Ireland, PEN USA, and PEN International.
